Fairground

I thought you were gone.
I never suspected that
I’d find your silhouette
Against the bleak landscape
Which we once filled
With the glowing ignition
of our souls as they
Shook hands for the
First time.
I begged them not to
Tear down our fairground.
Now I stand
Among the rubble
Because you called
The demolition company
Without so much
As warning me.
The tears come
Because our shadows
Don’t overlap
Like they used to.
The tears come.
I thought they were
gone too.
